Topic: Negative Enviromental effects of globalization

This cartoon shows the irony that American consumer demand for cheap goods from China causes China to be one of the largest producers of carbon dioxide and pollution in the world. TNCs like Nike invest heavily in China to manufacture their goods, but the end result is air pollution, haze and deforestation. This causes global warming and affects people's health. This leads to greater government spending to contain global warming and health care, at the expense of other areas like education. The environment suffers and there is reduced welfare and drop in quality of living of people

I agree. When I was in China last year, the sky was always grey. Heard that this is due to heavy air pollution there. China being one of the largest manufacturers today needs to look at ways to reduce their carbon footprint for the good of not only their people but for the world too.

I heard that Nike has factories in China and they use sweatshops that exploit their workers, just as the business week article below claims.
