Student’s Name: Zhi Wei

Topic: Negative environmental effect of globalization

Source: http://www.globalarcade.org/ge/index.html

This source provides “globalization” themed games for youths to play. This website also provide a comprehensive database of special dictionary, studies done, online discussions and other websites on globalization. It is basically a one stop for all website for students wanting to learn more on globalization – including its environmental impacts. One interactive game it has produced is the quiz show, “You Don’t Know Zack!” The more answers are answered wrongly, the more frequent your food will mutate. This game aims to raise public awareness on genetically engineered (GE) food and test the recipient’s knowledge on them. Students will learn about facts and terms used in association with GE.

Topic: Negative Enviromental effects of globalization
Source:

http://www.tropical-rainforest-animals.com/air-pollution-causes.html

In this website, globalisation has been cited as one of the main causes of air pollution, besides industrialisation and population growth. In effect, globlisation has become an effective facilitator of air pollution, thus causing a negative impact to the environment. Developing countries have much "looser laws" on environmental protection to build their production lines, hence TNCs prefers to move its facilities to such “pollution havens” rather than work in more regulated markets and to tap on their cheap labour resources.

My sources: Choon Kim

Name: Choon Kim

Topic: Negative Enviromental effects of globalization

This cartoon shows the irony that American consumer demand for cheap goods from China causes China to be one of the largest producers of carbon dioxide and pollution in the world. TNCs like Nike invest heavily in China to manufacture their goods, but the end result is air pollution, haze and deforestation. This causes global warming and affects people's health. This leads to greater government spending to contain global warming and health care, at the expense of other areas like education. The environment suffers and there is reduced welfare and drop in quality of living of people

My Sources: Arlianny

Student’s Name: Arlianny Sairol
Topic: Negative enviromental effect of globalization
Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/3682184.stm
What does the source say about the topic:

This source says that a TNC that invested in heavy mining operations in Indonesia, has been accused by villagers living near the mine of dumping toxic chemicals into the sea. This has caused serious health problems and even death of the villagers. The Australian mine manager has been brought to court to be questioned. This case has serious implications because not only does it cause serious enviromental harm (i.e Marine life is affected) but it has also caused social problems such as higher health spending for the government (which leads to lower spending for other sectors, like education) and reduced the standard of living of people around the polluted area. Also, bringing TNCs to court might scare off potential economic investors which could lead to drop in revenue for government (negative economic impact)

Our Hypothesis::

GLOBALIZATION CAUSES NEGATIVE ENVIROMENTAL EFFECTS!!

INQUIRY QUESTIONS:

2) Do we have evidence to prove our hypothesis ???

3) Where can we find such evidence??

and our Team members are...
